St. Peter's Seminary, Cardross

Me n’ Lou went to measure up a job in Cardross. Before heading back to Dumbarton we had a look at St. Peter’s Seminary. I’d never been before but I think Lewis spent time here drinking and taking drugs when he was a teenager. I wish I spent my teenage years doing that. I was trying to be a millionaire and “cool” but I think drinking and drugs would’ve been a better use of my time now that I see what has became of me.

I like this brutalist stuff and I like the super ornate over the top Victorian stuff, I don’t really like anything in between the two. Again, I’m not an architectural historian, I just like what I like, I also don’t know the proper names for the era’s/styles. I don’t think most people do, they’re just making it up like the rest of us. I know enough to get by.

I like that you can see the wood grain on the concrete from the forms they used. Board formed concrete. I googled it.

Supposedly they closed it because they couldn’t afford to heat it. I’m not sure if that’s true but it seems like something a Scottish person would do. Spend loads of dough building this masterpiece then saying it’s shite cos its too cold then move to another cold place and build something shit with better heating. It’s weird man.

Lewis found this video below of the place, there’s a few videos on it but I think this is the best one. Check the light in the place. Looks like something Kanye West would design.

There’s never an answer when you ask people why do we build uninspiring stuff now compared to this. But people say this type of building is a step backward from the late 1800’s. Maybe people just like to argue about stuff that doesn’t need to be argued about.

I’m not religious, I just like the building. I’ve still not got a porsche though, I might turn to god to see if that’s the way.

On another note, I saw that the 996/997 have came down in a price a tiny bit. You can fit a tow-bar on them too, the boxster, which is cheap and has a “thing” about them. It’s like adidas without the yeezys. Not interesting. (I’m nearly 40, that’s some pop culture chat, I apologise) but the boxster has the exhaust through the middle, so fitting a tow-bar would be different, but Lou could fabricate something.

Take it easy. It’s a knife fight out there…
