Making a lamp (Ikea Hack, sounds stupid)

I made this lamp from an old Ikea lamp I had and some leftover materials, took a couple of hours and I just made it on the fly without a plan. I'll redo it here and there until Im happy with it then make the final one that I'll maybe put up on the online store as a product to sell. 

It's very basic and I think I'm going to change the small dowel section that holds the lamp from wood to a solid brass dowel maybe? 

The wood was leftover from a job and the ikea lamp cost about £8, not expensive and it's good to have a full size model to mess about with while designing.
