Handmade Bookcase
/Heres a bookcase type affair I made. I'm not 100% sure of the timber, possibly iroko. I got a big load of different timber from a sawmill that was closing down. Before I started planing this down I was sure it was walnut. It's not walnut...I'm pretty sure its not anyway.
I like the contrast between the timber and the black stained legs and back. I don't know why I like it, I just do.
The sides and top are joined with a box joint/finger joint, I like the look of this joint and will use it on some upcoming work. I completed the Rubix cube too, done it over Christmas, nah bother.
The base is the part that you'll never really notice and its probably my favourite part.
Handmade furniture is made to be passed down, it's meant to last forever as long as you treat it right. Thats why its more expensive. It's not made with the thought of "It'll do for a year until the re decorate the room" Know what I mean? I'm happy with this piece and the style of it, one of my favourites.
If you're in the area, Glasgow, Argyll, Edingburgh, Scotland, The World and you're looking for a piece of handmade furniture gimme' a shout. Have a look through the instagram @caleband_taylor to see some of my recent work. And also, feel free to share with whoever you think might like this piece.
Cheers and take it easy :)
