An oak Bed

I’ve done a few of these types of beds now, which is nice I suppose, in a time when everyones a designer or creative and wants the wood guy to do exactly what they want. I think it’s nice when people see a thing you’ve done before and want one similar but different. I think that’s the way this whole thing is supposed to work. But I could be wrong, more than likely.

This looks to be floating, theres a smaller box underneath with a metal frame, once it’s fixed to the wall it can take a pounding :)

We didn’t do the headboard or side drawers, those were done by someone else, I’m sure the headboards all matched throughout the house. not sure though, but we didn’t do them. I quite like how they look.

These are box joints on the corner, there was an architect called Ray Kappe, one of my favourites, he had some big box joints on houses he done, I just like how it looks.

That’s Caleb, the middle boy, imagine being 16 nowadays, must be quite mental.

We done one of these beds that couldn’t be fixed to the wall, a lot of metal for weight works for these times. I’d like to do one that’s in the centre of a room with no fixings so it looks like it’s just floating there. Only becasue I think it’d be cool and the fact that it doesn’t have any mechanical fixings is quite exciting when you’re 40 and boring.

I used maple for the slats and plugged the holes with oak. I used to use birch plywood for the slats but I think I prefer the maple.

Doing the joints…

There’s about a 8 week lead time for most of my stuff just now (early 2024) as the year goes on it gets busy and time runs out, time’s running out for all of us and I don’t know how to stop it. If you do, please get in touch…

All in all a good job and I like making beds. I need to write that its an oak floating bed with box joints available in Glasgow Edinburgh and London, made in Scotland. This is just for google to find me and show to people who are searching for what I do. It’s been my marketing strategy forever and it works most of the time.

Any questions or to talk about getting something made you can send an email from the contact page or give me a call.

Onwards…
